Meet Alexa Ong: local illustrator and freelance art director; the owner of Wood&Lead (her creative avenue for whimsically crafted products).

We visited her studio at Pearl's Hill Terrace on a relaxed Saturday morning. Sharing the space with other like-minded creatives, Alexa makes this intimate corner of the room her home away from home. With a family of house plants lined along the ledge of the window by her desk, and a collage of framed prints dotting her studio wall, her workspace is reflective of her creative practice that is playful, homely and relatable.

Gathering around a large communal table in the studio, we delved into conversation on her creative journey and practice, while sharing laughter and yet another of life's simple pleasures - in the form of one too many chocolate bars.

Throwback to December 2016, I chanced upon a body of work "Rou" (which means 'flesh') by the local ceramist and maker, Chloe of Usually Usual. These small, functional ceramic vessels expressed a clear idea to me, gave me repose and nudged me into having my first conversation with Chloe. Since then, she has shared with me about her various adventures and explorations with clay, and I am constantly reminded by her that the delightful act of making is inextricable from the people you encounter, the memories created and how you learn to comprehend the world around you.

Bust: Measure across the chest from armpit to armpit at the fullest point of your bust
Waist: Measure across your waistline, just above the belly button
Hips: Measure across the widest part of your hips/lower body where it curves out the most

Shoulders: Measure across from point to point of your shoulders
Sleeve: Measure from the shoulder edge to sleeve hem
Rise: Measure from the distance from the middle of the crotch seam (right between your legs) to the top of the waistband
Length: Measure from the high point of your shoulders and straight down to the hem
